I Floss Regularly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a common lie that many of us are guilty of telling our dentist. However, your dentist can tell if you are not an avid flosser. This is because brushing only removes plaque on the surface of your teeth while flossing reaches places below the gumline. If you have inflamed gums, also known as gingivitis, this is usually a sign that you aren\u2019t flossing correctly as often as you should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Don\u2019t Smoke Cigarettes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Even if this isn\u2019t a habit that you are comfortable fessing up to, chances are that you don\u2019t have to. Your dentist will be able to tell. If you don\u2019t smell like tobacco, then your teeth will give it away from the staining that occurs over time. Chewing tobacco is no better! Tobacco products heighten your risk for pretty much every type of cancer, including oral cancer, as well as other issues in the body. When you are in pain, often times your eyes will flinch or clench shut. Your tongue and legs may tighten as well. They might be able to use a topical anesthetic, or you could ask about taking pain medications before your next appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Don\u2019t Drink Soda<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Soda can be very damaging to your teeth, especially if you like to drink it often. This is because the beverage is so acidic and sugary, it can soften and wear away the protective enamel that covers your teeth. This drink is best saved for occasions and it is a good idea to use a straw and rinse your mouth out with water afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Don\u2019t Grind My Teeth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is a chance that you don\u2019t even know that you\u2019re telling this lie because you are probably unaware that this is occurring. If you have frequent headaches or muscle pain around your jaw, this may be the cause. However, your dentist will be able to tell because your teeth can develop a worn look over time. These symptoms combined tend to point to teeth grinding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Only Drink on Occasions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are a heavy drinker, your dentist is likely able to tell on their own. This is because alcohol interferes with the salivary glands and reduces your saliva production which leads to dry mouth. Alcohol also has a very distinct smell that your dentist is bound to notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
