5 Points to Keep in Mind When Searching for an Emergency Dentist

It’s always preferable to avoid a dental emergency when you can, but sometimes they can still occur (especially if you have particularly active family members.) If you have a dental emergency to deal with, the last thing you should have to do is search for an emergency dentist in Jacksonville, FL to visit, rather than just make a phone call. Don’t have a dedicated emergency dentist? Not sure how to choose one for your family? Keep these five points in mind while you search, whether you do it in person or online!

Same-Day Visits

Dental emergencies can rarely wait, whether it’s an oral infection or a broken/knocked-out tooth. When choosing a dentist, make sure that they have a process for same-day appointments. This could mean calling them during specific hours of the day where they are more likely to see you. Even if they can’t see you the same day, they should at the very least be able to see you the next day.

Experience in the Field

General dentists perform many different services, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are equipped to handle a large variety of different dental emergencies. When searching for a dentist, check their experience online or ask them in person about their credentials. Do they have experience in helping those suffering from chronic pain? Are they active in organizations catering to those who may have serious dental problems, such as underserved communities at home and abroad? If so, this shows they are prepared to handle your emergency, no matter how complex it might be.

Dedicated to Comfort

Getting comfortable can be extremely difficult when you have bad tooth pain or your tooth has cracked. If able, make time to visit their office in-person to see if it feels like a calm and relaxing environment. More importantly, does the dentist make sure to not just make you feel comfortable, but walk you through the process of a treatment, rather than pressure you into completing it when you don’t fully understand the steps? This not only qualifies them as a worthwhile emergency dentist, but a good general dentist as well.

Wide Variety of Services

Dentists never perform emergency services exclusively. It’s more than likely that they have plenty of general dental services worth considering as well. Rather than having to rely on one dentist for your family’s preventive checkups and another for emergency services, find one that’s able to provide both. If you have other dental needs in mind (whether it’s treatment for a sore jaw, gum therapy, or cosmetic enhancements), it’s worth asking about them during your search.

Affordable Options

Dental emergencies can be expensive to treat, so it’s important to see what plans they are willing to accept and whether or not they are in-network with your current provider. If you don’t have insurance, does the dentist provide third-party financing via monthly payments? Is there interest attached to these plans?

When you know what to look for, choosing an emergency dentist is much easier than you think!
